The Mad Hatter's Tea Party, held Sunday, August 9, following the 10:30a.m. service, was a smashing success.  Tables set up under the trees and among the vineyards were decorated with all the characters from the Lewis Carroll tale complete with flower filled teapots, wrong way signs, flamingos, the clock which had stopped at four o'clock and, of course, food which was appropriate to the venue and caused the tables to groan.  Also visiting the affair  were the Mad Hatter (Fr. Mautner) and the Queen of Hearts (Jann Fetterly).  A group of the more adventurous (including several children) performed in an improv theater which added further spontaniety to the affair.  For this portion of the event, two supporting parts were ably carried out by Fr. Mautner and Bill Gilcrest as Tweedle-dum and Tweedle-dee.  The very able emcee for the day was Michael Price who entertained the crowd with a history of tea and some of the clever and useful benefits of the soothing beverage. Much credit goes to the committee who chaired this event for the A.C.W.:  Ruby Dillard who is President of the Auxillery, Ruth Price, and Jan Fetterly with assistance from Michael Price, and many others who turned the church yard into an enchanting  wonderland for the afternoon.  Thanks to everyone  for all the assistance and to the entire parish for supporting this event so enthusiastically and helping to fill the coffers of the A.C.W.

A prayer group for women called “Daughters of Saints Mary and Martha” has been organized  in the Province.  This is a group which has, as a common goal, disciplined prayer each day. Two retreats have been held in San Francisco and on a recent Saturday, four participants from St. Stephen’s met for lunch at Pacific Blues in Yountville with Cari Renz who is from St. Thomas Church in San Francisco.  She, with the Archbishop Provence's  blessing and direction, is working to publicize and “grow” the group.   At the luncheon from St. Stephen’s were Susan Prudhomme, Ruby Dillard, Rosemary Flores, and Barbara Gilcrest.  More information on this group may be obtained from Fr. Mautner, Fr. Prudhomme or any of the participants.
